Outerline 1.2

Your notes are easier to find, capture, and work with. Discover saved documents through Spotlight, use new Siri and Shortcuts actions, turn web articles into Markdown, and read code with offline syntax highlighting on Mac and iPhone. This release also brings accent-insensitive search, a selection-aware formatting palette on Mac, folders-first browsing on iPhone, and fixes for comments, library recovery, and Codex connections.

Outerline 1.0-1508

Build 1508 names your libraries. On both Mac and iPhone you can now give the active library a human-readable name that syncs across your devices. iPhone also gains a quick-access View Options sheet in the Library, folder and document deletion that removes rows immediately instead of waiting on the filesystem, and an All Documents row that hides itself when it would be redundant. Editing is faster on both platforms in long documents, Reduce Motion is honored throughout the editor, and Mermaid diagrams move to a newer runtime with a stricter offline preview policy. Deleting, moving, or renaming a document now waits for the open editor to save first, so unsaved edits can no longer be lost to a library action, and this build also fixes inline comment popovers on iPhone, hardens sync for Dropbox and other file-provider libraries, and adds a privacy manifest declaring that Outerline collects no data.

Outerline 1.0-1499

Build 1499 is a wide-ranging update across Mac and iPhone. Comments arrive on both platforms: select any text on Mac or iPhone and leave an anchored note, with inline markers, popovers, and an inspector list. Accounts are now fully native on iPhone, including Continue with Apple and six-digit email verification, and Outerline Publishing becomes a real subscription with a native purchase and restore flow tied to your Outerline account, so publishing access stays in sync across iPhone and Mac. Mac also gains Remember Position, a unified Copy menu, keyboard navigation in Quick Open and Advanced Search, and per-surface word count controls, while iPhone gains a Force Sync action for iCloud and a large fix for typing lag in longer documents.

Outerline 1.0-1423

Build 1423 makes Markdown files feel more at home on Mac with Finder Quick Look previews, Open With support, instant file-list selection, and double-click-to-open in a new window. On iPhone, it brings a more reliable iCloud sync experience, smoother folder creation, accurate tag-filtered views, and full publish and account support. Publishing is now tied to your Outerline account across Mac, iPhone, and the web, with reusable share links and a new web dashboard for managing published documents.

Outerline 1.0-1351

Build 1351 brings custom document titles, a new / formatting palette, and editor line-height controls to both platforms, plus a round of menu and folder polish. On Mac, the slash key now opens an inline formatting palette with nested heading commands, and documents gain an Edit Title action that overrides the generated library title without touching the Markdown file. On iPhone, the folder long-press menu adds New Document and New Subfolder (matching Mac), New Folder defaults to the library root, and creating a folder no longer flashes the “Opening vault…” screen. Both platforms add a Line Height slider in Editor settings.

Outerline 1.0-1318

Build 1318 lays more groundwork for sharing your notes, and brings a round of polish across Mac and iPhone. On both platforms, document menus gain Copy Markdown and Copy Text, and export and move actions now sit together. On iPhone, the editor inspector picks up the native Liquid Glass look for a cleaner, more seamless sheet, and swipe actions now show clear labels for Star, Move, and Delete. On Mac, a few editor and settings rough edges are smoothed out, including New Document from Preview Only and the first-launch settings flow.

Outerline 1.0-1301

Build 1301 lays the groundwork for Publish and Share across macOS, iOS, and the web. It also updates Version History on macOS with a cleaner header style and fixes several macOS issues around deep links, the Settings window, and AI assistant (MCP) edits — including a first-open flash, a brief resize when the saved storage location was iCloud, deep links opened from outside the app closing and re-spawning the main window, deep links doing nothing on a cold launch, and MCP edits failing to save when the library is stored in iCloud.

Outerline 1.0-1271

Build 1271 is a broad editor reliability update across both platforms. On iOS, autosave now fires reliably after formatting actions, retries quietly on transient failures, and can no longer be postponed indefinitely during long sessions. Document saves are protected when moving between notes, when the app backgrounds, and when a disk change arrives while editing. Scroll behavior is corrected so the view no longer snaps back to the caret after scrolling away, and the last line no longer hides under the toolbar after dismissing the keyboard. iOS also gains an Undo button in the editor toolbar, a left-aligned document title, and clearer library setup labels. On macOS, new documents place the cursor immediately, the Formatting toolbar popover stays open through transient focus changes, and first-run library setup is hardened so Open Existing only accepts folders that already contain Markdown files or Outerline metadata. General Settings gains an MCP toggle to enable or disable the bundled helper, and Word Count and Writing Goal move into Editor Settings.

Outerline 1.0-1235

Build 1235 sharpens document actions on macOS and polishes iOS toast feedback. On macOS, the file-list trailing swipe action now opens a Share popover with the same Share & Export options as the editor toolbar, while Move To remains available from context menus and folder/sidebar workflows. Move To refresh behavior is also fixed so documents moved out of the current visible folder disappear from the file list immediately. On iOS, toast notifications now include matching symbols for Starred, Unstarred, moved-folder, Deleted, and Copy Link actions, and the Show Filename editor setting once again hides the filename subtitle when turned off.

Outerline 1.0-1225

Build 1225 is a cross-platform polish release that brings macOS and iOS closer to feature parity, focused on making document management and editor interactions feel native and reliable. New documents now adopt normalized content-derived filenames on both platforms, and starring and deletion clean up after themselves — deleting a starred document removes its Starred metadata and refreshes the sidebar immediately. Faster file actions arrive via swipe gestures: macOS gains swipe-to-star/move/delete on document rows, and iOS extends full-swipe star/unstar to every view. The iOS editor got the most attention, resolving long-standing inspector and navigation friction: toolbar chrome shadows no longer drop or redraw, document identity moves into the native navigation title stack, and inspector-driven jumps to outline items, highlights, and find results now scroll smoothly after the inspector finishes closing — eliminating the blacked-out editor, pre-scroll hitches, and snap/jog effects. Deleting from the editor now returns cleanly to the library with a Moved to Recently Deleted toast instead of flashing Document not found.

Outerline 1.0-1210

Build 1210 focuses on a smoother macOS editor and a more capable iOS Library. On macOS, scrolling is noticeably smoother: fenced code-block backgrounds now redraw only the visible region instead of the whole block, and iCloud vault monitoring no longer runs a continuous background refresh loop — cutting idle CPU and the intermittent scroll hitches it caused. On iOS, the Library gains a Select mode for multi-selecting documents, starred rows, and folders with Move and Delete from the bottom toolbar, plus selection-feedback polish and a light-mode surface fix so grouped rows render correctly.

Outerline 1.0-1196

Build 1196 hardens vault metadata syncing across macOS and iOS so shared JSON metadata writes are coordinated, atomic, and easier to inspect when iCloud or FileProvider is involved. It also adds debug-only metadata sync diagnostics on both platforms with per-file status and copyable reports, and improves live metadata refresh paths so external sidecar updates are detected more reliably across devices. On macOS, Advanced Settings gains Metadata Sync diagnostics, the Starred sidebar supports reordering by dragging rows, and starred metadata refreshes live when another device updates it. iOS adds a Diagnostics section in Settings, watches active metadata sidecar files directly, and polishes the keyboard format toolbar interaction and Liquid Glass surface. Cold-start outerline:// deep links now replay correctly after the vault loads on both platforms.

Outerline 1.0-1188

Build 1188 hardens document identity across rename, move, sync, and file-provider refresh races on both platforms, keeping open documents and library rows anchored to a stable UUID rather than a transient file path. On iOS, the editor gains a filename subtitle (with a Show Filename toggle in Settings), Copy Link now works on folder rows, All Documents respects the selected Library sort option and direction, and new document creation is more resilient to autosave and provider-lag races. macOS tightens metadata sidecar determinism, identity registry cache invalidation, and the sidecar watcher so cross-device sync events refresh state without triggering full library tree reloads.

Outerline 1.0-1178

Build 1178 improves Mermaid rendering internals across macOS and iOS, hardens new document creation and file handling on both platforms, and tightens rename stability across the library, editor, Starred, and Tags views on iOS. On macOS, new documents now target the selected sidebar folder reliably and unsaved drafts survive iCloud-driven library refreshes; starred document metadata stays stable when a rename from another device arrives before the matching identity update. iOS library startup is now much faster after the first successful sync by restoring the last known vault snapshot immediately; initial iCloud sync keeps progress visible until downloaded documents reload with resolved titles and previews; and the iOS cached restore path avoids onboarding flashes and delayed Starred/Tags expansion.

Outerline 1.0-1172

Build 1172 expands existing-library setup on macOS and iOS so folders of .md files from other apps can be opened in place as working libraries, without moving your notes. First-run and Settings flows now separate creating a new library from opening an existing one, and metadata is written only after you confirm the selected folder. This release also hardens third-party and provider-backed storage such as Dropbox with a provider-safe metadata folder that avoids repeated Unknown file entries, keeps metadata out of the visible library tree, and preserves non-mergeable metadata safely during library merges. iOS additionally polishes the iPhone New Document flow so it opens once with the keyboard and formatting toolbar correctly sprung, improves iCloud library labeling in onboarding and Settings, and hardens Starred metadata so stars don’t silently drop when macOS and iOS are both open against the same vault.

Outerline 1.0-1163

Build 1163 lets Outerline open existing libraries from other apps' folders of .md files. On macOS and iOS, choosing an existing markdown working folder now safely adds Outerline's metadata sidecar and identity registry in place, without moving your notes or forcing them into a new top-level Outerline folder. This release also hardens Dropbox/File Provider folders by avoiding repeated Unknown file.outerline-data folders, using provider-safe hidden metadata outside iCloud Drive and On My iPhone, normalizing older non-iCloud .outerline-data libraries to outerline-data, and keeping metadata out of the visible library tree. macOS Settings now switches local libraries with Open and New actions while keeping a dedicated Use iCloud Library option.

Outerline 1.0-1158

Build 1158 ships document export and full-library backup export on both platforms using a shared ZIP writer and a consistent archive filename format. Source Code Pro is now bundled in the macOS and iOS apps so it is always available from the monospaced font list. On iOS, new Settings > Editor and Settings > Library > Documents panels mirror the Mac editor and library preferences and propagate across all document surfaces. Document export (HTML, PDF, Markdown) is now available from document row menus, Starred rows, All Documents and tag views, and the editor ellipsis menu. The iOS library opens into the skeleton immediately for cloud-backed libraries, and a silent CoreText prefetch pre-warms Monaco and Andale Mono after the library loads.

Outerline 1.0-1150

Build 1150 focuses on iOS iCloud sync robustness and a new library backup export. The iOS library now shows first-run iCloud download progress inline as a library row, handles files present on disk but not yet downloaded from iCloud, keeps sync progress from going backwards, and disables pull-to-refresh while a sync is in progress. A new backup export option in library settings creates a zip archive of the full vault and presents the system share sheet, waiting for any pending iCloud downloads before archiving. The iOS editor gains fixes for initial scroll positioning and scroll hitches. On macOS, library multi-select adds Cmd-click and Shift-click selection with batch delete, Move To, drag-to-folder, and Show in Finder.

Build 1141 focuses on link reliability and iOS inspector polish. It adds a macOS Settings > Advanced link validator that scans the vault for broken document, folder, path, heading, line, annotation, and wiki links; makes iOS cross-document jumps to headings, lines, and highlights wait for the destination editor before scrolling; and adds Find & Replace, highlight Copy Link and Remove Highlight actions, Liquid Glass transient notices, and polished empty states to the iOS editor inspector. Deep-link routing, MCP link tools, link previews, and link/tag/wiki/validation parsing are unified through shared logic that consistently ignores Markdown code spans and fenced code blocks.

Build 1130 ships the iOS editor inspector with a full Links tab and a Markup tab Highlights section, brings macOS and iOS link panels to visual parity with collapsible section headers, replaces Recently Deleted restore with Move To anywhere in the library on both platforms (including drag-to-folder on macOS), and adds Collapse/Expand All Folders and consolidated sort direction controls to the macOS View menu.

Build 60 introduces Recently Deleted and wikilink interoperability — type @ or [[ to insert internal links that round-trip cleanly with standard [[WikiLink]] syntax. The build also corrects two library defaults: new installs start with library word count hidden, and first-run onboarding no longer creates a fallback ~/Outerline library before you confirm a location.

Outerline 1.0-54

Build 54 reworks General Settings with a new Sidebar group and adds a Tags visibility toggle. This release also refines the Annotations icon and fixes two editor quirks: formatting popover rows where the padding area silently swallowed taps, and a numbered-list edge case that duplicated the marker when pressing Enter in front of a list item.

Build 46 adds MetricKit integration for automatic crash and hang diagnostics, enriches the diagnostic snapshot with comprehensive system information, and defaults the outline panel to closed on all screen sizes.

Outerline 1.0-45

Build 45 fixes the starred document title flash and adds a tag-to-inline-code shortcut. The file-library title area now immediately resolves to the selected document when switching between starred documents. Type /#word followed by a space and the editor instantly wraps the token as inline code — useful for hex color codes, CSS values, and anything that looks like a tag but isn't.

Outerline 1.0-44

Build 44 adds sidebar folder reparenting via drag and drop. You can now drag a folder onto another folder to nest it or onto All Documents to move it back to the library root. The flow now blocks invalid nesting and same-name collisions, and the post-move refresh is hardened so dropping a moved folder no longer flashes the sidebar or jumps selection.

Outerline 1.0-43

Build 43 is a performance and infrastructure update. Preview Only mode (Cmd+3) scroll stutter has been resolved — the root cause was a feedback loop of per-tick state updates and a permanently-rendered hidden measurement overlay driving continuous SwiftUI layout churn. This build also unifies word count across the app, reworks the build script, and adds a one-click MCP helper installer.

Outerline 1.0-40

Build 40 is a stability update focused on undo correctness. Editor undo history is now scoped to the active text view instead of the window-wide undo stack, so switching documents no longer leaks stale undo actions into the next note or wipes unrelated window undo state. This build also expands undo regression coverage for document switching and editor detachment, and refreshes the Xcode test-target metadata for the current toolchain.

Outerline 1.0-37

Build 37 is a stability update with OuterlineDoc preview polish and a documentation accuracy pass. The default preview theme is now OuterlineDoc. Annotations created in open-in-new-window mode now sync back to the main window immediately (including after pending saves), and deep link position targeting (annotation, heading, line) now scrolls to the correct position even when the editor view is still initializing.

Outerline 1.0-35

Build 35 is a hotfix that resolves a crash in the live preview renderer. The crash occurred when the Markdown parser reported source line ranges beyond the actual number of lines in a document, causing a Swift range precondition failure.

Outerline 1.0-34

Build 34 adds markdown file import via drag and drop — drag any markdown file from Finder directly onto a sidebar folder to move it into your library. All common markdown extensions are supported. A confirmation dialog prevents accidental imports, and imported documents are automatically tagged #import so you can track what came from outside the library.

Build 33 adds Copy Prompt to the Share menu and file list context menu, copying a Claude Code-ready prompt with the document's title, path, deep link, and MCP instructions so you can jump straight into an agent session from any note. This build also consolidates metadata into a single .outerline-data folder (auto-migrated), smooths sidebar drag-and-drop into nested folders, and hardens metadata migration under lock contention.

Outerline 1.0-32

Build 32 makes deep links a first-class feature. You can now copy a stable outerline:// link to any document, a specific position, the nearest heading, or a highlight — from the Share menu or editor context menu. Deep links also surface in the Links panel with position-aware labels, highlight links now show a clipped preview of the highlighted text, and inbound references now preserve distinct linked positions instead of collapsing to a single source-document row. This release also ships UUID-keyed storage for annotations, version history, and starred documents, a keyboard shortcuts reference, and a round of navigation and menu polish.

Build 31 ships a built-in MCP server so assistants like Claude Code and Codex can read, search, edit, and organize your vault directly. This release also adds deep links with stable UUID-based identity, tag management with colors, Mermaid diagram rendering, a Move To folder menu, and a What's New modal for future updates.
