Outerline 1.2.9

Summary

macOS

Outerline’s iCloud folder can now hold multiple libraries, and your existing iCloud library moves into a folder of its own automatically. Library setup and Manage Libraries are clearer, and Markdown files added from Finder, scripts, or other apps appear in your library sooner. The Import Web Page sheet now saves with a Save button, and the image context menu no longer shifts while Outerline checks image access.

iOS

Outerline is now ready for iPhone Duo: the last note you used reopens beside the Library, Star and Preview sit right in the vertical toolbar rail, and the formatting bar stays put next to Done, including with a hardware keyboard. You can save web pages straight from Safari’s share sheet, keep multiple libraries in iCloud, and on iOS 27, Library actions live in the system’s own overflow menu.

macOS

Improvements

  • Multiple iCloud libraries. Outerline’s iCloud folder can now hold several libraries, each in its own folder. Your existing iCloud library moves into a folder of its own automatically, with its metadata intact. Setup finds the libraries already there and offers a chooser when there are several, and the others are listed in Manage Libraries. New Library can create a library in iCloud, and lists that option first.
  • Clearer library controls. Manage Libraries shows each library’s name with its location beneath. Selected libraries show white checks on blue circles, and the setup chooser animates cloud icons into checks and offers a blue Use button. Redundant helper text about where libraries are created is gone.
  • Faster discovery of new files. Markdown files added through Finder, scripts, or other apps now appear in your library sooner, without waiting for a full library refresh. Your current selection and any unsaved edits are preserved.
  • The Import Web Page sheet now uses Save for its main action. Recoverable failures still offer Retry.

Fixes

  • Fixed the editor’s image context menu shifting while Outerline checks access to an image. Grant access to image now appears in the bottom section so the other rows stay in place, and it no longer appears twice.
  • Granting access to another image or folder no longer reloads every previously saved image permission.

iOS

Improvements

  • Ready for iPhone Duo. When the Library and editor sit side by side, Outerline reopens the last note you used in each library on launch, after setup, when you switch libraries, and when the layout expands; if that note is gone, it opens the first note in All Documents. On iOS 27.1 and later, the vertical toolbar rail shows Star/Unstar and Preview directly while editing. Opening Preview leaves a single blue Hide Preview button. Done keeps priority, so the Star and Preview quick actions move into the overflow menu first when space is tight. Undo appears beside Done only when there is something to undo. The formatting bar sits above the keyboard alongside Done instead of competing with the rail, and it stays visible while you edit with a hardware keyboard. Wider layouts show more formatting actions in the keyboard row, and comment drafts and focus survive layout changes.
  • Import web pages from Safari. Share a public page to Outerline from Safari’s share sheet. The sheet shows the page’s title and domain; choose a folder in the current library and tap Save to extract the article on your iPhone and save it as a Markdown note. A brief Saved confirmation returns you to Safari, and the note appears right away on this iPhone; other devices pick it up through sync. Open Outerline once after updating, before using the extension, so it knows your current library.
  • Native Library menu on iOS 27. On iOS 27 and later, Library actions appear in the toolbar’s built-in overflow menu instead of a separate ellipsis menu. Grouping, sorting, library checkmarks, and the confirmation before switching libraries all work as before. iOS 26 keeps its existing menu.
  • Multiple iCloud libraries. Outerline’s iCloud folder can now hold several libraries, each in its own folder. Your existing iCloud library moves into a folder of its own automatically. Setup selects the library it finds, or offers a chooser when there are several, and the others are available in Manage Library. Create New Library can create a library directly in Outerline’s iCloud folder.
  • Consistent library sheets. New Library lists iCloud above Choose Folder…, which now reads “On this iPhone or another location.” Manage Library shows just the library name with its path beneath, using the same icons as setup. The iCloud chooser animates cloud icons into checks, has a blue Use button and an X to close, and selected checks stay white on blue in light and dark appearance. Redundant helper text about where libraries are created is gone.
  • The Import Web Page sheet now uses Save for its main action, matching the Mac and the Safari share extension. Failures still offer Retry.

Fixes

  • Fixed the selected library shifting or briefly disappearing behind a spinner while setup refreshes iCloud libraries. Continue now waits for the refresh to finish.
