Publish and Share on iPhone

Outerline can turn a document in your library into a public web page with a link you can share. The published page preserves your Markdown formatting, and every time you save the document Outerline updates the page behind the same link.

Anyone with the link can view a published document. Outerline asks search engines not to index shared pages, but the link is public access, not a password or private invitation.

Add Your Account

Publishing requires an Outerline account.

  1. Open Settings from the Library.
  2. Select Account.
  3. Choose Add Account.
  4. Sign in, create an account, or use Sign in with Apple.

Signing in by email sends a six-digit code to that address. Enter the code in Outerline, or tap the secure link in the same email. Codes expire after 15 minutes, and requesting a new one replaces the previous code.

The whole flow happens inside the app. You are not handed off to Safari to sign in.

Subscribe to Outerline Publish

Publishing new documents requires an active Outerline Publish subscription in addition to your account. The first time you publish, Outerline shows the subscription details for review before anything is purchased.

  • The subscription is billed through your Apple Account and auto-renews monthly until cancelled.
  • Manage or cancel it anytime in Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions.
  • If you already subscribed on your Mac or another device, choose Restore Purchases on the subscription sheet.
  • Links you’ve already shared stay live if your subscription ends, and you can copy links or stop sharing at any time, with or without a subscription.

See the Terms of Service for full subscription and billing terms.

Open Publishing

You can open Publish... from a document row or from the editor:

  • Press and hold a document in the Library, then choose Publish....
  • Open a document, open the editor’s document-actions menu, then choose Publish....

Share a Link

  1. In Share Link to Document, pick an Appearance for the page: Sans, Serif, or Mono. Sans is the default.
  2. Select Anyone with link.
  3. Wait while Outerline creates the public page.
  4. Choose Copy Link.
  5. Close the sheet and send the link wherever you like.

Appearance sets how the published page is typeset for readers; it does not change the editor or the Markdown on disk. You can change it later from the same sheet, and a live page updates right away.

Only saved documents in your active library can be published. Drafts and documents opened from outside the library must be saved into the library first.

Keep the Shared Page Updated

After a document is published, successful saves update the existing shared page automatically. The public URL stays the same, so you do not need to send a new link after every edit.

Stop Sharing

Open Publish... again and select Only you have access. The public page becomes unavailable, but the document remains in your Outerline library.

Manage Published Documents

Open Settings > Publish to see every document you have shared from this library. Each row offers Copy Link and Stop Sharing.

For account-wide management, open Settings > Account and choose Manage Account. Safari opens your account settings, where you can review published documents and stop sharing individual pages.

What Readers Can Do

A shared page can be read in any modern browser. Readers can copy the Markdown or choose Open in Outerline to import a snapshot into their own library. An imported copy does not stay connected to future updates from the publisher.
