Getting Started on iPhone

Outerline for iPhone lets you browse, write, link, tag, export, and recover markdown documents from the same local library model used by Outerline on Mac.

Choose Your Library

On first launch, choose where Outerline should keep your markdown library. If you already use Outerline on Mac, pick the same iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or local folder-backed library so your documents and metadata stay together.

iCloud Library is the simplest path when you want your documents on every Apple device.
Create New Library starts fresh in a folder on this device or in a cloud service.
Open Existing Library points Outerline at an Outerline library, or a working folder from another app, that already exists.

Keep Outerline open during the first sync if the Library shows download progress or cloud icons.

Understand the Main Flow

The iPhone app has two primary places: the Library, where you browse and organize documents, and the Editor, where you write and inspect one.

Open the app to the Library.
Tap a document to edit it.
Use the bottom toolbar to create documents, inspect the current document, or open document actions.
Swipe back or tap the back button to return to the Library.

Sync Documents

Outerline works with files on disk. Cloud sync timing is controlled by iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or whichever file provider hosts your library. During first setup, the app may show a progress row while it downloads markdown files and metadata. Later, individual rows may show cloud or spinner states when a document is visible but not fully local yet.
